ISSUES
Ask yourself these questions and if you answer YES, we are on common ground and I will work for our common good.
- Do you want our students to succeed in school and be both academically and emotionally prepared for whatever path they choose?
- Would you like our streets to be fully paved, with fewer potholes, and our sidewalks to be safe and ADA-compliant?
- Should the City be transparent about its finances and clearly explain the reasoning behind its budget allocations?
- Should Newton lead in sustainability and continue addressing climate change issues at the local level - such as flooding and preserving our tree canopy?
- Should we ensure that older residents and people with disabilities are aware of—and have access to—all the resources they need?
- Should small and independent business owners feel supported by the City so they can not only survive, but thrive in our community?
- Should development strike a balance between bringing new growth to Newton and preserving its unique character and the natural environment?
- Do you want the City to ensure that our robust arts and culture programs continue to grow and thrive?
- Would you like to see more truly affordable & workforce housing—for both current residents and those hoping to call Newton home?
- Should every Newton resident feel safe and secure, regardless of their age, religion, country of origin, skin color, neighborhood, whom they love, or political beliefs?
My approach
I believe true leadership begins with listening to diverse perspectives, staying open to learning, and being willing to change course when evidence points to a better path forward. It also means remaining committed to difficult issues—even when they are complex or controversial.
Sometimes, the best way ahead involves compromise, even if it requires making concessions. When I disagree with a decision or a vote, I will approach it with curiosity rather than judgment. I’ll dig into the details, ask clarifying questions, and seek to understand the reasoning behind it.
I won’t hold grudges. Instead, I’ll stay focused on the next challenge, thinking carefully about what others need to hear in order to better understand my perspective—and perhaps even come to share it.
